The Story
This story involves someone very near and dear to me: Angelita, my best friend and godmother of my wedding—and the number one fan of Cielomar Jewelry since the beginning! She reached out to me with a lovely idea for a custom jewelry design project using two topaz stones gifted to her by her mother. One small and one large, the stones symbolize her and her mother, and she wanted to create a piece where they could be featured together.
The Design Process
She filled out our Custom Inquiry Form, and we hopped on a Zoom call to discuss further details of what she envisioned for the project. During our consultation, we collaborated on various design directions, and we decided on open-back bezels to showcase the stones’ incredible clarity and to avoid the gold affecting the overall color of the topaz. At first, she was open to the possibilities of either yellow or rose gold, but after viewing 3D renderings of the rose gold option, we immediately knew that would be the perfect metal for the piece with its unique contrast against the elegant, soft blue gems.
Angela also visualized a more delicate design, so we went with a 2 MM half-round band to flawlessly compliment both the main stone, set with claw prongs, and the smaller stone in bezel setting. We both absolutely loved the modern look of the mixture of stone settings and their subtle rotation, creating a classic yet whimsical look.
After finalizing our concept, I sent her a package that included a complimentary ring sizer for her to verify the correct fit, an insured shipping label, and all the materials for her to mail the stones my way—from Cleveland, Ohio all the way to California! We then dove into the Custom Design Process, which began with scanning her stones for accurate sizing and having a gemologist test them for authenticity, followed by casting, setting, and a final polish.
The Final Piece
The finished ring turned out beautifully, and I couldn’t wait for Angela to unwrap it and share with her mom! The two topaz stones set in a delicate rose gold embrace exquisitely captured the love and eternal bond between them—a modern interpretation of a family heirloom that Angela will cherish for years to come.
